For this exercise we were to mix media in certain ways, starting with drawing and then changing media to see what effects could be created.
My own reference photo.
Colour First:
Digital paint brush, then printed onto white printer paper.
Draw:
Drawn over with Posca pens.
Draw:
Drawn over with black fine liner pen.
Draw:
Drawn over with graphite and coloured pencils.
Draw:
Drawn first lightly in graphite pencil
Colour:
Digital Dry ink brush
Variations:Removing the original drawing from underneath.
Adding a background (Purchased/licensed from: Glanzgraphics)
with the original sketch lines.
Removing the original sketch lines, using the background texture and adding
splatters to give more details.
Starting to add a bit of shading.
Adding back the sketch lines.

Colour:
Digital dry ink brush, then printed onto white printer paper.
Cut:
I cut the coloured flowers into petal shapes, glued (collage) and then used black fine liner and white Posca pen to draw on top.

Reflection:
I wasn't sure about this exercise, whether I would enjoy it or find techniques I'd like. You could say I was fairly skeptical. I used my own reference photos to draw from and tried a few different experiments using mediums I currently enjoy or want to learn further.
The results were very surprising, I actually found that I liked elements in all of them and discovered things I didn't know you could do in Procreate to get different effects.
Drawing and then putting into Procreate was a very tedious task, made more difficult because I had put so many intricate lines on the drawing, it was hard to colour in between them. However I discovered I could remove the original drawing after colouring to create these lovely white lines and that was very effective.
I think for me colouring first was the most surprising in terms of results. Drawing on top seemed so alien to me as I usually draw first then colour but doing it this way forced me to be more playful and then adding the lines on top gave a very different look. I especially like the effect of the collaged ones since both added mediums on top came out really effective.
These experiments have given me more knowledge of what I can do with mixing media and I can take what I've learnt into future projects.
