Client: BBC2
Brief: Create an opening credit sequence for 'The Culture Show' that will surprise, inspire and challenge views.
Reflection:
This first brief contains all the information I would need to get started on this project of one or more 20 second credit sequences for 'The Culture Show'. Aiming towards 25-44 year old, 'discerning metropolitan minded people who genuinely have an interest and love of the arts culture.' The programme style is forward-focused, confident and has stylish presentation, so I would keep this in mind when brainstorming my ideas for the credit sequence.
This brief is very detailed, which makes tailoring the illustration easier. The client specifies that the sequence 'needs to surprise, inspire and challenge viewers as soon as they tune in' and to also include the shows main topics; fashion, art, architecture, music, film and TV. I would say this is a fairly closed brief but has enough room to put my own creative stamp on it.
I would begin my research by watching clips of the shows current opening sequences and some of the programme content, to get a good visual idea of the content and how I might proceed. There isn't any mention of colour schemes relevant to the programme so I would ask about that and the font style they use, would they want to update this as well or keep with their current font. This would give me enough information to get started. I would also need to know the dimensions needed for screen and resolution and the deadline for completion.
Client: Orange
Brief: Create your vision of future communications.
Reflection:
This brief is very open and needs some clarification on the purpose and use of the required illustrations and more information about the target audience.
Firstly, I would want to know what age their main core audience is and what these illustrations will be used for. Without knowing the use, it is hard to know where to start on this project. It is not clear how many illustrations are needed and when the deadline is. Once I had this information I would get started brainstorming my ideas and researching the branding for Orange to get a better idea of which colours to use and style. I like that this brief is more personal and creative but I would definitely need more information before taking this on.
Client: Sainsbury's
Brief: Create a piece of design or illustration for a limited edition range of Sainsbury's shopping bags.
Reflection:
This brief has specific basic requirements but there is lot's of room to be creative. Whilst the client gives specifics on the dimensions of the bag and that the design would cover both sides, with Sainsbury's branding on the side gussets they do not specify how many designs are needed and what age group they are for. Whilst there are guidelines on the company values that need to be considered, there are no specific design themes asked for nor any specific colours. I would clarify this information before beginning this project and brainstorm from there. This brief is open to creative freedom with brand value guidelines to be considered.
