Research:
When searching for collage illustration and paper cutting I found a vast selection which are very effective. I especially like this first one, it is eye catching shows the layers of the flowers very well.
There are many ways to use paper to create illustrations both in 2D and 3D. The artist's that I found above each have a unique way of working with paper using different techniques, cutting and shaping. This is a very skilled technique. Having just completed my poster with collage papers, I found it very difficult to get the effects that I wanted.
